How the price is calculated

  1. Hours for a standard clean. Square feet ÷ your cleaning speed, plus extra time for each bathroom and each bedroom. With the default values, a 1,500 sq ft home with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms takes about 3.6 hours of work.
  2. Type of cleaning. A deep clean takes about 1.75 times as long as a standard clean, a move-in/move-out clean about 2.25 times, and a post-construction clean about 2.5 times.
  3. Price. Total hours × your hourly rate per cleaner, minus a discount for recurring service, plus your supplies.
  4. Time at the home. If two people clean, the work hours are the same but you finish in half the time.

How much do house cleaners charge?

Rates change a lot from one city to another. Independent cleaners often charge around $25 to $50 per hour, and a standard cleaning of an average home often lands between $100 and $200 per visit. Deep and move-out cleanings cost more because they take longer. Use your own hourly rate and your real cleaning speed to get a price that pays you fairly.

Tips for pricing cleaning jobs

  • Time your first visits. Write down how long each home really takes and adjust the cleaning speed in "Advanced settings".
  • Price the first clean as a deep clean. A home that hasn't been cleaned professionally usually needs more time the first time.
  • Reward recurring clients, not one-time jobs. Weekly and every-2-weeks clients give you stable income, so a small discount makes sense.
  • Charge extras separately: inside the oven or fridge, inside windows, cabinets, laundry, pets. Add them in "Extra services" with your own prices; common prices vary a lot, from about $10 to $90 for an appliance.
  • Send a written quote. Use the estimate generator to list what is included.

Frequently asked questions

Should I charge per hour or a flat rate?

Most clients prefer a flat price per visit, because they know exactly what they will pay. Calculate it from your hours, as this tool does, and review it if a home consistently takes longer than expected.

What is the difference between a standard and a deep clean?

A standard clean keeps a home tidy: dusting, vacuuming, mopping, kitchens and bathrooms. A deep clean adds detail work such as baseboards, doors, light switches, cabinet fronts, grout and buildup, so it takes much longer.

Is the hourly rate per person or for the team?

Per person. If two people clean for two hours, that is four hours of work, and the price reflects all four hours.
